Apple cider French toast is so easy to make and you only need a few simple ingredients. With apple cider and Fall spices, you will be on your way to making the perfect French toast breakfast for the holidays.

Around our house, apple cider is very popular. I think it comes from the days of living in New England and all of the apple orchard visits we made. They always have the best apple cider there and we always put it to good use.
Our most recent trip to the apple orchards was when I decided to make this French toast recipe and it has become a favorite. It is our new go-to holiday breakfast.
It is just your standard French toast ingredients (cream, eggs, and bread) but we are adding in some delicious Fall flavor with the addition of apple cider, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
It is amazing!
What You Will Need

As I said, these are all simple ingredients. It will not take you long to mix this all together. Here is what you need, (full recipe below):
- Apple cider. If you cannot find apple cider, you can use apple juice. There will be more flavor in the apple cider since it is less processed than apple juice but use what you have.
- Sliced white bread. I like a slightly thicker sliced bread so the French toast holds its shape when cooking.
- Heavy Cream. I like to use cream to thicken the custard since the apple cider thins it out a bit. You can also use milk.
- Eggs. Large eggs work best.
- Brown sugar: This helps accent the apple cider flavor in the French toast.
- Cinnamon: Like the brown sugar, this is adding to the apple cider flavor.
I told you these were simple ingredients!

How to make (step-by-step photos)
Simple steps are what this delicious holiday French toast is all about. Here is how to make it:

- Mix: Mix the wet ingredients for the French toast custard. This is the apple cider, cinnamon, brown sugar, cream and eggs.
- Dip: Now dip the sliced bread into the custard then flip and dip the other side.

- Cook: Cook the French toast in a preheated and buttered skillet or pan for about 3 minutes per side. Look for the outside of the French toast to be crisp before flipping.
- Plate: Now just plate the French toast and enjoy. In our house, we really enjoy eating this apple cider French toast on its own with just a little powdered sugar on top. You can also add some maple syrup if you prefer. If you want to pump up those Fall spices, you can make a batch of spiced pear syrup to drizzle over the top too.
Variations
This apple cider French toast is perfect just the way it is but that does not mean you can't make this your own. Here are some ideas:
- Use whole wheat bread: Use whole wheat bread instead of white bread for a healthier breakfast.
- Add more spice: If you want more holiday spice in the French toast, try adding some nutmeg, more cinnamon, or even vanilla.
- Use milk: If you don't have cream, go ahead and use milk. Just cook the French toast about a minute longer if you do this.
- Add toppings: You can make caramelized apples to add to the apple flavor or add some toasted pecans or walnuts for crunch.
