Grapefruit popsicles with lemons and oranges.

Now, I have to say, that I love grapefruit and citrus in almost everything. I add it to cakes, cookies and just about everything in between. I even make a caramelized grapefruit for breakfast!

When you are making these popsicles, you want to work with fresh citrus juice if you can. It tastes better and it is better for you.

Also, if you are planning to make these grapefruit popsicles, you just need to plan a little ahead since they are popsicles and need to be frozen for a good 24 hours before they are ready. The steps to making these popsicles are super easy. You will need to make a quick simple syrup and then juice your citrus for the popsicles.

Honey simple syrup on table

Grapefruit Popsicles Ingredients

There is not much to this recipe. It is simple and so refreshing.

  • Red grapefruit. I prefer red grapefruit but you can use regular grapefruit too.
  • Lemon. This helps brighten the flavors.
  • Basil leaves. Words cannot describe how delicious the basil is in the popsicles. If you don't like basil though, you can leave it out.
  • Honey. For the simple syrup.
  • Water. Also for the simple syrup.

How to make

These grapefruit popsicles are really easy. The only part that needs any time is making the simple syrup but you can do this ahead of time. Here are the steps (full recipe below):

  1. Make simple syrup: This is the honey and water. You just heat them until the honey dissolves.
  2. Juice Grapefruits and Lemons. Juice the grapefruit and lemons. If you prefer, you can use store-bought juice.
  3. Add to popsicle molds. Fill your popsicle molds.
  4. Place basil leaves in each mold: This adds such a beautiful flavor when you are eating these popsicles.
  5. Freeze: You want to allow at least 4 hours for the popsicles to freeze.

Substitutions

If you are not into juicing your own citrus fruit or do not have time to do that, you can substitute unsweetened grapefruit and lemon juice from the store and it tastes just as amazing as the fresh squeezed.

The nice thing about the ingredients in these grapefruit popsicles is fresh grapefruit juice without sugar is readily available to purchase in most grocery stores. For the lemon, you can just use lemon juice in the little yellow bottle.
