These easy dijon mustard steak skewers are my favorite way to make steak and adding Dijon mustard to steak tips gives them such incredible flavor. They cook up quickly, the dijon mustard marinade for the steak is so simple and this is always a crowd pleaser This is a must make dish at your next BBQ.

Dijon steak skewers cooked and resting in a large baking dish.

You can call these Dijon steak kabobs, steak skewers, and it all means the same thing. Easy delicious steak strips marinated in the most delicious Dijon marinade then grilled to perfection.

Now, I have cooked this on the grill, in the oven, and on the frying pan, all with great success. If grilling is not in the cards, other cooking methods work just as well (I've added more on this below!)

I actually started cooking this recipe after going to a friend's cookout years ago who shared it with me and it has been on our dinner rotation ever since.

During the summer months, I love grilling these dijon steak skewers and making a homemade basil lemonade or cherry limeade to go with it for the ultimate summer BBQ!

Ingredients

Dijon steak skewers ingredients.

Here is what you will need:

  • Sirloin steak: Cut into 1 inch cubes. You can also use steak tips.
  • Dijon mustard: The star ingredient. Dijon stands up really well to the flavors of steak. It is the perfect flavor pairing.
  • Olive oil: This helps thin out the Dijon.
  • Salt and pepper: To wake up the flavors of the Dijon and steak.
  • Sweet Paprika: This adds. a touch of earthy sweetness, which is the best way I can describe it. Trust me, it works!

The more time the steak is in that marinade, the more flavor on the steak!

How To Make Dijon Steak Skewers

Dijon steak skewers preparation steps.
  • Make the dijon marinade: You will first want to gather all of your ingredients and make the Dijon marinade. I like to throw everything into a sealable plastic bag. You do not have to be neat, just throw it all in!
  • Prepare the Steak: Now cube up the sirloin steak into 1 inch pieces and add it to the bag with all of the ingredients. Seal the bag making sure to burp out a little air from the bag. Once it is nice and sealed go ahead and start massaging the steak and Dijon marinade together by holding the outside of the bag and mixing the ingredients all around.
  • Marinate: Place the bag in a bowl and place in the fridge for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight. You can even do this 2 days in advance and it will taste even better. If you are in a rush and don't have 2 hours, 30 minutes will work for marinating.
  • Skewer: Using metal skewers, add the beef to the skewers making sure to push the meat all the way up the skewer. Keep adding the beef making sure to leave about 1 inch from the end of skewer.
  • Grill: Using a preheated grill pan or preheated grill over medium heat, add the skewers and cook for about 2 minutes per side, making sure to rotate the skewers 4 times (for the 4 sides to the beef cubes.)
  • Rest: Once the beef is cooked, remove it from the heat and cover them with a large plate or aluminum foil and let them rest for 5 minutes.

Best Meat For Steak Skewers

When making steak skewers, it is always best to use a leaner cut of meat since the cooking time is fast. That is why I love cooking with sirloin steak which is my number one choice.

If you don't have sirloin steak on hand, here are some more ideas:

  1. Tri-Tip steak
  2. NY strip steak (most of the fat is usually on the outside and easy to trim off). Even though this is more of a prime cut of beef, you can stretch out the portions by adding vegetables to the skewers so it is more budget friendly.
  3. Steak tips.

Pan Frying Steak Skewers

I would be remiss if I didn't mention other cooking methhods besides grilling because my kids cook this dish all the time and they come to my site to get the recipe. They also do not have a grill where they live so they use this method. Here is how to do it:

  • Preheat a large shallow sided saute pan over medium high heat. You want to take a test skewer and make sure it fits into the pan. I like using the shorter wooden skewers for pan frying since they fit better.
  • Once the pan is not and preheated, add the skewers to the pan and cook for 2 minutes then turn the skewers. Do this a total of 4 times until all the sides have a nice sear and crust.

Build An Entire Meal

I like to build an entire beef bowl with this recipe when I am making it for my family. Here are some of the bases for the bowls and sides that I like to pair with the dijon beef:

  • Bases: white rice, mexican rice , halloumi salad or a spinach salad.
  • Veggie additions: garlic roasted green beans, sauteed zuccchini and tomatoes, cheesy garlic asparagus or harissa roasted carrots.

Storing And Leftovers

If you happen to have leftovers, just store the steak (removed from the skewers) in a container with a tight fitting lid in the fridge. It will last for up to 3 days.

To reheat the steak, wrap it in some aluminum foil or place it in a covered baking dish and place it in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes.
