This homemade golden milk ice cream uses a vanilla ice cream base with the addition of golden milk spices to add warmth and flavor. You can use this recipe for homemade vanilla ice cream as well and it is so delicious.
Golden milk ice cream is a delicious cinnamon and turmeric spiced ice cream that you will love once you try it. Golden milk is traditionally a drink made from warm milk and spices that contain tumeric which makes the milk a golden color (hence golden milk).
The spice blend is turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and black pepper. You can check it out here: Golden Milk Mix
These spices are said to be good for your health because of the anti-inflammatory properties but I love it most because it tastes amazing! I have over the years used my own golden milk spice blend that leaves out the pepper so that I can use it in baking and ice creams.
When I make a drink with it, I just add a quick twist of black pepper to my drink.
If you have golden milk on hand, it is fine to use that just the way it is for the recipe. I also will include a link to my recipe that you can make at home.
You will probably have all these ingredients right in your cabinet and it is so much cheaper than buying golden milk mix at the store.
For this recipe, I have added the golden milk to my favorite homemade vanilla ice cream recipe which does not use eggs. The final result comes out amazingly creamy.
The flavor of this ice cream is somewhat like snickerdoodle but better!
You can use this homemade vanilla ice cream recipe base as a starter to any type of ice cream. If you just omit the golden milk, you will have the most delicious vanilla ice cream!
The steps to making this Golden Milk Ice Cream are easy:
First, you are going to add all of your ingredients to a medium sauce pan. You are going to warm all of the spices and sugar with the cream base until the sugar dissolves.
Once your mixture is nice and smooth and you sugar is fully dissolved, you just let it sit on the counter to cool down before adding it to your ice cream maker.
Second thing you want to do is grab your ice cream maker. Once your golden milk mixture is cool you will add this to your ice cream maker following your manufacturers instructions for making ice cream.
The third step here is once your ice cream is finished being made in the ice cream maker, you want to scoop out your ice cream and place it in a freezer safe container. I have heard that shallow containers work best for preventing some ice crystals from forming.
I currently use a store bought ice cream container but I might try out a shallow one in the future to test out that theory!
Ideas for additions to add to the ice cream:
If you are someone who likes toppings or texture in your ice cream, you may enjoy adding some toppings into or on your ice cream . I love to add chunks of chocolate to the ice cream when serving it to add even more deliciousness.
You can also add chocolate chips or chunks into the ice cream maker when you make the ice cream.
Toasted shredded coconut on top works really well with the flavors of the ice cream too.
Whether you decide to make this plain or with toppings, it will be delicious. Hope you give this one a try!
