Chili and Cumin Brioche Croutons

Chili and Cumin Brioche Croutons

Well, I am again trying to make sure I am not wasting food in the kitchen and trying to find ways to use up all of my ingredients from previous meals.  This brioche was from some amazing french toast I made the other morning!  I had only 2 slices left of this brioche but it was too good to waste so I decided to make some croutons for another meal with them.  Now if you don’t have brioche but another type of bread this recipe will work out just fine.  You can also change out the spices to suit your taste (nothing is set in stone here!)  I added these to chili instead of traditional cornbread croutons so they have a chili spice added to them.  Any seasonings are fine or even just plain salt and pepper.  Either way, homemade croutons are so much better than the stuff you can buy at the store and you won’t waste that leftover bread!

Here is the chili with the croutons, YUM!

  • 2 thick slices of brioche bread (or other bread) cut into 1/2 cubes
  • 2 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1/8 tsp of cumin powder
  • 1/8 tsp of chili powder
  • sprinkling of sea salt or kosher salt
  • Step 1 Pre-heat a large saute pan on medium heat. In a bowl combine your cubed bread, olive oil and spices and mix well to coat all of your bread. Now add your bread to your saute pan and cook, turning often for about 5-10 minutes until the bread starts to turn golden brown in color. When done, remove pan fro the heat and lay out your croutons on a cooling rack to cool off and dry out.
  • Step 2 Use to top salads or soups !
